The Guy Smiley Blues Exchange w/special guest BUTTER
The Guy Smiley Blues Exchange from Tennesee was formed in 1993 and has been compared to groove/jazz artists like Groove Collective, Phish, and Medeski Martin & Wood. Their sound is a collection of many musical styles. In one live performance they play everything from straight-ahead jazz to rock to Latin to funk. This band pulls from seven different backgrounds, seven different sets of influences...of course it's going to be diverse.
Taking old-school southern rock'n'roll to new, mind-expanding places, the quartet called BUTTER has started to light up clubs all over NYC. With their two guitarists/vocalists leading the band through tightly written songs and screaming improvisational jams, plus their rock-solid rhythm section laying it down low, this band brings a lot of energy to a room.

A Very Special Evening With
Charlie Hunter
Blue Note recording artist, Charlie Hunter makes his first appearance at the Stanhope House. Charlie Hunter's emphasis is on the groove. To get there, he had an eight-string-guitar created so he could build the bass lines under his the melody of his lead guitar. This funkified blend of lead/bass/chord riff and fly at the same time-reminiscent of classic funk organ. Hunter & crew strip soul jazz down to the bare necessities, then rework the genre in their own image--intelligent funk. This is groove with a purpose.
